Did you ever sit down and plan your career?
I never knew what I wanted to do ‘when I grew up’, and I never had a career mapped out ahead of me. But what I did know is what I was passionate about, and what made me happy. I adored books and found the English language fascinating so studying English at university was always my aim. I was also always passionate about the environment and social impact so working for a company that reflected my own values was also important. World of Books ticked all the boxes.
I started at World of Books as a Rare Book Valuer. From there, I took any opportunity to learn new skills, and took on roles as Trainer, Assistant Team Leader, Team Leader. These roles all taught me something that was valuable in order to start a new career in Impact & Sustainability.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self what would it be?
“All because you don’t have a plan doesn’t mean you won’t succeed!”
I am proud of where I have got to, but also very proud of the journey I took to get here. I have experienced different work environments, worked with a variety of different people with a variety of different skill sets. I have learnt from all of these. I wouldn’t have changed any of that to get where I am sooner.
